Silage Protection Covers vs. Silage Film
Understand the separate roles of the protective cover and sealing film, and how they work together.
Two products with different roles
Silage protection covers and silage film should be identified separately in a purchase specification. Silage film serves the sealing function. The protection cover is used over the film; it is not a replacement for the film and should not be described as independently sealing or preserving the silage.
Protective covers over silage film
Discuss a protective cover for use over the selected silage film. Confirm the cover dimensions, netting construction and applicable edge details. Explain the installation layout and support or securing arrangements so the specification can be reviewed for the intended use.
Specify gravel bags clearly
Silage gravel bags are the bags used for weighting. Calling them only “silage bags” can be confused with large bags used to store the feed. Confirm the bag dimensions, closure and handle requirements where applicable, and discuss how the bags will be used with the cover.
Confirm the complete requirement
Provide the storage layout, required cover dimensions, quantity and destination. Review the film, protective cover and gravel bag requirements as separate items. Agree any applicable inspection, testing, packing and label requirements for the product actually being ordered.
